Walmart Supports California Growers with new Neighborhood Market in Rohnert Park

By Kim Sentovich, Senior Vice President of Walmart, Pacific Division

Love of the Land

As one of the largest purchasers of American agricultural products, Walmart is proud to announce plans to open a new Walmart Neighborhood Market in Mountain Shadows Shopping Plaza in Rohnert Park at the corner of Golf Course Drive and Country Club Drive. The new Neighborhood Market is anticipated to open this fall and will provide local residents with access to affordable products and convenient shopping in a smaller store layout.

The Neighborhood Market will offer a full grocery department including organic and natural selections. The store will feature prepared food options, fresh-baked bread, self-serve deli and bakery products, health and beauty aids, pet supplies and household goods.

We understand and embrace the opportunity Walmart has to strengthen local economies and provide customers around the world with long-term access to affordable, high-quality fresh food. With that in mind, we launched a global commitment to sustainable agriculture in 2010 and developed a series of goals that aim to help small and medium sized farmers expand their business, get more income for their products, and reduce the environmental impact of farming. Thanks to the excellence of California growers and producers, 40% of all produce sold in Walmart is grown in California.

There are many aspects of the Neighborhood Market that excite us, but one of the greatest is the location of the new store within Sonoma County. Sonoma County is a large contributor to California's status as the nation’s leading farm export state. We recognize the vast amount and variety of local agriculture producers in Sonoma County and its local agriculture producers and Farm Bureau members like yourself who make up our network of global suppliers. If you are interested in joining the thousands of businesses that proudly call themselves Walmart suppliers, you can find additional information and online application at http://corporate.walmart.com/suppliers/.

In addition to the new Neighborhood Market, we look forward to continuing our pursuit of expanding the Rohnert Park Walmart store on Redwood Drive to include a full grocery department, bakery and deli. Once expanded, it too would provide local residents with affordable, high-quality fresh food from a variety of local and national producers.
