Thank You, Tim

As many of you know the Sonoma County Farm Bureau is in the process of saying goodbye to executive director Tim Tesconi. Tim announced his desire to retire earlier this year and we have been in the process of recruiting a new face to step into his shoes. (Hopefully you will hear more about that in next month’s Farm News.) I have repeatedly bugged Tim to postpone his retirement for a while but to no avail.

Tim has always been a friend and advocate for agriculture. I’m sure many of you remember Tim prior to Farm Bureau when he wrote for the Press Democrat. He is also a lifetime resident of Sonoma County and his family once had a dairy in what is now incorporated Santa Rosa.

Tim has been a great asset to the Sonoma County Farm Bureau. We have had the privilege of working with Tim for nine years, and he has been the executive director for the last two. Tim stepped into the executive director roll when there was a fair amount of turmoil in the Farm Bureau office, and he has done a great job energizing the staff and keeping the organization focused on its goals.

As always, Farm Bureau was in the midst of a multitude of legislative issues and battles to protect and promote agriculture, and with Tim’s leadership we continue to fight that fight. Tim is a leader who can explain agriculture to folks who don’t understand it while doing so in a way that not only educates them but makes them a champion of agriculture in many cases. It is this ability that has helped Farm Bureau build relationships and dialogue with agencies and groups across Sonoma County.
The new executive director will indeed have big shoes to fill, but Tim has also offered to help make sure that transition is as smooth as possible. Tim will be with us full-time through the end of August and at that time he will work with the new executive director to help bring them up to speed on current issues and the workings of the Farm Bureau office.

It’s with mixed emotions that I say goodbye to Tim as the Farm Bureau executive director. I will lose the opportunity to work with him on a daily basis, but I know he has a list of things that he needs to get done in his personal life. Even though we won’t have Tim on the clock at the Farm Bureau anymore, I hope that we will continue to see him regularly as a volunteer or guest at our events.

We were able to surprise Tim at the Farm Bureau Love of the Land in July, honoring his dedication to Sonoma County agriculture over the last 43 years. The dinner was located at Richards Grove and Saralee’s Vineyard, those of you that know Tim know there is no finer time and place to say thank you.

Thank you, Tim. You’re a great guy and it has been a privilege to work with and learn from you.
