Spring is coming and it is important to plan ahead when considering your vineyard or orchard projects. It is still winter, but the April 1st construction start date will be here soon and it may take some time to gather the materials necessary for a complete VESCO application submittal. Do you need a biological study done or engineered erosion control plans created? Contracting with consultants and getting the final products will take time. The sooner you have your material together and submit your VESCO application to the Department of Agriculture/Weights & Measures (AWM), the better. Remember that it takes time for AWM staff to review and issue VESCO permits for your orchard or vineyard projects. Proper planning will help get you the permit you need in the time you need it.
Utilizing our free online mapping tool at www.sonomacounty.ca.gov/AWM-map is a great way to assess your property for slope, soil type, and critical habitat areas and you can even create project maps with it. AWM also offers an onsite consulting service where staff will go out to your project area and let you know what specifically will be necessary to get your project permitted. If you have any questions or to set up a consultation, please call our office at (707)565-2371.
