March 9, 2023, letter to CAL FIRE, California Climate Investments Grant Programs, Wildfire Prevention Grant Program Manager.
The Sonoma County Farm Bureau submitted a letter of support for the proposed Sonoma County Grazing Collaborative for Resilient Communities and Hazardous Fuel Reduction Program submitted by Conservation Works for funding through CAL Fire’s Wildfire Prevention Grants Program. This program aligns well with CAL Fire’s grant funding goals to protect communities, prevent catastrophic wildfires, sequester carbon, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The proposed program is modeled after the Land Smart Grazing Program. It plans to support the utilization of targeted livestock grazing in fuel break and high-risk areas to maintain initially cleared space, reduce fuel load, and make communities safer in the face of wildfires.
