Ag Days K–6 Grade Contest Guide for Teachers

These contest descriptions are meant to give you and your students ideas and examples to spark creativity. They are not requirements, just inspiration to help you get started. We encourage you to interpret the theme in your own way, use the materials and styles that work best for your class, and have fun with the process. The most exciting part of Ag Days is seeing the unique creativity and perspectives each classroom brings to life!

Bookmark

  • Theme Connection: Illustrate how Sonoma farms feed people both here and around the world, while also caring for the land.

Poster

  • Theme Connection: Show Sonoma agriculture’s local-to-global impact and environmental stewardship.
  • Ideas: A poster with arrows pointing from Sonoma crops to people worldwide; or a vineyard/farm scene that includes solar panels, compost piles, and bees.

Essay

  • Theme Connection: Encourage students to reflect on how local farms provide food and protect natural resources.
  • Ideas: Write about a favorite local food and how it nourishes families near and far, or imagine being a farmer who invents a “farm of the future” that feeds the world while protecting the Earth.

Decorated Potatoes

  • Theme Connection: Potatoes become characters that represent global connections or climate-smart farming.
  • Ideas: A potato dressed as the Earth with crops growing around it, a potato bee or pollinator, or a potato “farmer” using sustainable practices.

Class Mural

  • Theme Connection: Highlight Sonoma’s deep roots and global reach.
  • Ideas: On one side, show local farms (dairy cows, vineyards, orchards); on the other side, show food reaching tables across the world. Include visual elements of sustainability like solar, compost, and pollinators.
