Sonoma County Farms Offer Fresh Trees, Family Fun and Holiday Tradition

It’s the time of year to pack up the kids to scout the hills and dales of Sonoma County for the perfect Christmas tree to string with lights and garland.

There are more than a dozen choose-and-cut tree farms in Sonoma County, with most of the farms concentrated west of Petaluma and in the hills around Sebastopol. Over the last decade there has been a big drop in Christmas tree production at the choose-and-cut tree farms as older tree farmers retired and land was converted to other uses including wine grapes. But the hearty survivors in the tree business continue to offer top quality trees, a country experience and, for many families, a yuletide tradition.
