Giving Back to Agriculture and the Community
By Sophia Bianchi, Membership & Communications Coordinator
A proud fifth-generation Santa Rosan, Jarrod Breckler is a commercial property and casualty insurance agent with Loewen Insurance Services. He comes from a family rooted in service, as the grandson of two World War II veterans and the son of a Vietnam veteran, values that have shaped his commitment to giving back and supporting his community.
Jarrod and his wife, Loretta, have been married for 17 years and are raising two daughters, Estelle and Josephine. Both girls are black belts in American Kenpo Karate and are active members of Penngrove 4-H and Sebastopol FFA. As a family, they enjoy spending time together, especially watching Marvel movies.
Supporting local agriculture is a way of life for the Breckler family. They make an effort to shop at local butcher shops, purchase fresh produce from roadside stands, and support family-owned farms whenever possible. At home, they grow their own vegetables, raise chickens and ducks for fresh eggs, and even raise hogs to share with family and friends. Jarrod hopes to set a positive example for his daughters by helping others, staying connected to the community, and leaving the world a little better than he found it.
When he’s not volunteering, you’ll likely find him fishing, ocean kayak fishing along the Sonoma Coast, or playing bass guitar in his classic rock band, Foghammer. His musical tastes lean toward heavy metal, classic rock, and just about anything released before 1980. Some of his favorite places to visit are Doran Regional Park and Ocean Cove, where he enjoys spending time outdoors.
Jarrod’s connection to agriculture began at a young age through his mother’s horses and the many cattle ranching families he grew up around. Today, with his daughters actively involved in 4-H and FFA and many of his clients working in agriculture, volunteering with the Sonoma County Farm Bureau feels like a natural fit.
“Even though I’m not a commercial farmer myself, I feel like I’m making an impact by supporting the people who feed our community,” Jarrod says. “Plus, I like the people at the Farm Bureau!”
His favorite Farm Bureau event is Love of the Land, which he enjoys because it brings people together while showcasing the valuable relationships that strengthen Sonoma County agriculture.
In addition to volunteering with Farm Bureau, Jarrod is a member of the Redwood Empire Remodelers Association (RERA), serves as President of Rivertown Business Builders, and belongs to the North Coast Builders Exchange. His office also volunteers with the Redwood Empire Food Bank, Rohnert Park Animal Services, and the Humane Society.
Jarrod’s advice to readers is simple: stay connected to your community. Support local businesses, learn where your food comes from, and stay informed about the issues that affect agriculture and the community. He believes that the more people become involved, the stronger Sonoma County will be.
